At Press Pause we have a passion to create more accessible mental wellness tools and content to support individuals that might be struggling with their mental health.

Below you can read our approach to wellness tools and how we’ve built products that are ready to start conversations and spark ideas around mindfulness and self love.

Our Toolset

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and developing personal coping strategies that target solving current problems. It helps us understand that we have the power to change things.

Positive Thinking Tools

Positive thinking means that you approach unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way. Positive thinking can lead to enhanced creativity, staying focused, problem-solving skills, and overall mental productivity.

Peer-to-Peer Techniques

Working on therapy-related tasks with peers can help us know that we're not alone in our struggle. Hearing others' experiences and sharing your own in a safe and guided environment helps to normalize mental health problems and inspire connection.

Our goal is to distribute easily accessible resources to help guide individuals through their mental health journey.

The Key Components

Taking users offline to focus fully on their mental health

Technology enables constant communication and the expectation that we should be available 24/7. Using a low-tech approach to mental health, individuals can unplug and move away from the clutter and noise of the online space to focus fully on their mental health.

Bringing all of the tools together in one place for ease of use

Self-care should not be a chore which is why we have compiled all the tools in one place for ease of use. All of our tools are evidence-based and were specifically curated and redesigned based.

Preparing us for the “What-if” situations

Within our products, individuals have the opportunity to build their own crisis management plan for the “What-if” situations they may experience. Our crisis planning sets them up with local professional support as well as invites them to identify people within their own lives that could support them.

Building a comprehensive onboarding experience

As part of the guided journaling experience, individuals are taken on a journey to create their crisis plan, plan for the future, as well have the opportunity to read through examples of how tools may work and what the value of the tool is.

Our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are all interconnected.

FAQs

Are these products a replacement for professional help?

No. Our journals are not the equivalent of therapy or a replacement for therapy with a licensed professional. They are designed to provide self-help information and tools in regard to the subject matter covered. We recommend using our journals as a complementary tool for professional help.

Why are the journals offline?

Technology enables constant communication and the expectation that we should be available 24/7. Using a low-tech approach to mental health, individuals can unplug and move away from the clutter and noise of the online space to focus fully on their mental health. Along with this, writing by hand forces your brain to process information in a more detailed way, which helps you successfully load that information into your memory.

Who should use Press Pause mental wellness products?

Anyone. Although some of our products were originally built with students in mind, they can benefit anyone who feels they are dealing with stress, anxiety, sadness, or isolation, and loneliness. Typically ages 13+.

Why is journaling important?

Journaling can help you to manage anxiety, reduce stress, and cope with depression. It also helps to control your symptoms and improve your mood by helping you prioritize problems, fears, and concerns, track any symptoms day-to-day so that you can recognize triggers and learn ways to better control them, and provides you with an opportunity for positive self-talk and identifying negative thoughts and behaviours.

Do your products help with problems other than anxiety?

Both journals primarily use CBT tools, which are evidence-based mental health treatment considered the gold standard for treating anxiety. Our toolset can also help to deal with feelings of sadness, isolation, and more.
